Thanksgiving weekend is about to get a little more magical. Walt Disney Animation Studios is bringing an original fantasy comedy to theaters, and the buzz around it keeps growing. Here at Ultimate Fandom, we have gathered everything currently known about Hexed, from its story and voice cast to its release date and the questions fans keep asking.

What Is Hexed About?
Hexed follows Billie, an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl who discovers secret magical abilities. Once those powers are unleashed, she is hurled out of ordinary suburbia and into a vast witch realm called Hexe. The journey is described as spectacle-filled, promising big visuals and plenty of surprises along the way.
Billie does not travel alone, though. She is forced to team up with her cautious mother, Alice, and together they uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever. That mother-daughter dynamic sits at the heart of the film, blending humor, tension, and heartfelt emotion in a coming-of-age saga that families can enjoy together.
Interestingly, the early description of the project was different. When Hexed was first announced at Destination D23 in August 2025, the story centered on an awkward teenage boy and his Type A mother. In April 2026, Disney revealed at CinemaCon that the lead would be a teenage girl named Billie, along with the full premise and a first look at footage.
Hexed Release Date
Hexed is scheduled to arrive in United States theaters on November 25, 2026, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Disney has a long tradition of placing its biggest animated releases in this holiday slot, and the studio is clearly confident in this one. It also lands as the 65th film in the Disney Animated Canon, a milestone that adds extra weight to the launch.
As of now, the film is listed as not yet rated. Since the story is a family-friendly fantasy comedy, most viewers expect a standard family rating, but Ultimate Fandom will update readers as soon as an official rating is confirmed.
Hexed Voice Cast and Characters
The voice cast is a big part of the excitement. Here are the names and roles announced so far:
- Hailee Steinfeld voices Billie Doe, the magical teen at the center of the story.
- Rashida Jones voices Alice Doe, Billie’s careful and protective mother.
- Tracey Ullman voices Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen.
- Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire, a magical journal.
- Jodie Foster voices Queen Celeste, a powerful figure in the witch realm.
- Walton Goggins voices Beef Roger Crummchuk.
- CeeLo Green is also part of the cast.
The story also features a sentient cauldron named Bucket, which sounds like exactly the kind of scene-stealing sidekick Disney does so well. Talking objects, magical companions, and eccentric witches all point toward a world full of personality.
Who Is Making Hexed?
The film is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones producing. Jared Bush, the studio’s chief creative officer, revealed the title, logo, and first story details during the D23 event in 2025. With that creative team, fans can expect the polished animation, layered humor, and emotional storytelling that Walt Disney Animation Studios is known for.
The announcement of new cast members has also come in waves. Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry were revealed alongside the teaser trailer in June 2026, while Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins joined the announced lineup in August 2026. Each reveal has kept the conversation alive, and Ultimate Fandom readers have been quick to share theories about who will steal the show.
How Hexed Fits Into Disney’s Holiday Run
The Thanksgiving slot carries real pressure. Last year, Zootopia 2 became a huge worldwide hit in the same window, so Hexed steps into a spot that audiences already associate with big animated events. Even better, Hexed was teased at the end of Zootopia 2, when the character Beef Roger Crummchuk appeared during the end credits. That small Easter egg rewarded attentive viewers and set the stage for the next adventure.
Footage from the film was first unveiled at Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, and the teaser trailer followed in June 2026. Together, those glimpses suggest a bright, funny, and visually inventive movie.
Why Hexed Is Worth Watching
There are several reasons to be excited. First, it is an original story, not a sequel or remake, which makes it feel fresh in a market crowded with familiar franchises. Second, the cast mixes pop stardom, comedy talent, and Oscar-winning experience. Third, the setting of a hidden witch realm gives animators room to build a colorful and imaginative world unlike anything in recent Disney films.
The emotional core matters too. Stories about parents and teenagers learning to understand each other resonate widely, and pairing that theme with magic gives the film both laughs and heart. If the trailer is any indication, audiences can expect a movie that balances big fantasy moments with relatable family humor.
Finally, the film arrives at a perfect time for family outings. Parents, teens, and younger children can all find something to enjoy, from the witty talking objects to the emotional mother-daughter journey, making it an easy choice for holiday movie plans.
