Few animated franchises have sold as many toys, tickets, and theme park rides as Cars. So when fans ask “is there going to be a Cars 4?”, the answer matters, and the internet is full of wrong ones. Welcome to Ultimate Fandom, the blogging site where we break down the movies fans actually search for. This guide separates what Disney and Pixar have really announced from the rumors, so you do not get fooled by fake release dates.

Is Cars 4 Confirmed? The Short Answer
No. As of October 2026, Disney and Pixar have not announced a fourth Cars movie. There is no official release date, cast list, trailer, or plot. What Disney has announced is a new Cars TV series, which we explain below.
Are They Making a Cars 4? What Disney Actually Announced
At D23 2026, held from August 14 to 16, Disney showed that Cars is still very much alive, just not as a fourth feature film. Here is what was real:
- Cars: Lightning Racers, a new preschool series that follows Lightning McQueen, Mater, and their friends. It is coming to Disney Jr. and Disney+, and a listing for it points to 2027.
- Sheryl Crow performed a new song for the show, called “Built to Last,” along with her hit “Real Gone” from the original soundtrack.
- A new look at Cars Ridge Run Rally, a ride in the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park coming to Magic Kingdom.
- A 20th anniversary re-release of the original Cars in theaters on September 4, 2026, timed to Lightning McQueen Day on September 5.
So if you are asking “is Cars 4 coming,” the honest answer is that a new Cars show and new park attractions are coming, but a fourth movie has not been announced.
Why Do People Think Cars 4 Exists?
There are a few reasons the rumor keeps spreading:
- A D23 survey once listed Cars 4 as an option, which led many fans to believe it was in development. Disney never confirmed it.
- Fan-made wikis and “movie ideas” pages look official and sometimes list invented dates and casts.
- Spam websites publish fake release dates for every popular sequel to get clicks.
- Pixar’s sequel push, with films like Toy Story 5 and Incredibles 3, makes a Cars sequel feel logical.
At Ultimate Fandom, we suggest trusting only Disney, Pixar, D23, and major trade outlets like Variety and Deadline when it comes to release news.
When Will Cars 4 Come Out? Why the 2027 and 2028 Dates Are Rumors
Since Cars 4 is not announced, any “Cars 4 release date 2027” or “when is Cars 4 release date 2028” claim is a guess. Pixar’s confirmed slate looks like this:
- Gatto: March 5, 2027
- Ghost Market: March 10, 2028
- Incredibles 3: June 16, 2028
- Coco 2: 2029
There is no open slot labeled Cars 4. Pixar films also usually take several years to make, so even if a Cars sequel were announced tomorrow, a release before 2028 or 2029 would be very unlikely. That is our reasoning, not an official statement.
Is a New Cars Movie Coming Out? What Is Real Right Now
If you want new Cars content you can actually watch, here is the current list:
- Cars, Cars 2, and Cars 3 on Disney+
- Cars on the Road, the 2022 Disney+ series
- Cars: Lightning Racers, the upcoming preschool series
- The Cars 20th anniversary re-release, already in theaters in September 2026
When is the next Cars movie coming out? Right now, there is no next Cars movie date. The next new Cars project is the series.
A Quick Cars Timeline
- 2006: Cars introduces Lightning McQueen.
- 2011: Cars 2 sends the gang on a spy adventure around the world.
- 2017: Cars 3 brings McQueen’s story full circle, directed by Brian Fee.
- 2022: Cars on the Road arrives on Disney+.
- 2026: the original film turns 20, and Disney announces Cars: Lightning Racers.
What Will Cars 4 Be About? (Cars 4 Plot)
There is no official plot, and anyone describing the Cars 4 plot as fact is inventing it. Fans have shared hopes, which are only wishes:
- A story where Cruz Ramirez takes the lead as the next racing star
- A return to Radiator Springs and the Route 66 feel of the first film
- A mentor story that continues Lightning McQueen’s role as a coach after Cars 3
- A smaller, character-driven adventure instead of another spy plot like Cars 2
None of these are confirmed. If Disney announces a movie, we will update this guide on Ultimate Fandom with real details.
How to Spot Fake Cars 4 News
- Check the date and the source. If a site cannot link to Disney or a trade outlet, treat it as a rumor.
- Look at the trailer channel. Official Pixar trailers come from Pixar’s own YouTube channel.
- Beware of exact dates with no announcement. Real release dates come with press releases and studio posts.
- Ignore AI-written pages with invented casts. Many list voice actors who were never confirmed.
Final Verdict
The honest answer to “is there going to be a Cars 4” is: not yet. Cars is still a huge brand, with a new series, a re-release, and park rides on the way, so a future film is possible. But until Disney and Pixar make an official announcement, any release date or plot is just speculation. At Ultimate Fandom, we would rather give you the verified facts than a fake date, and we will update this page the moment something real arrives.
