Carrie follows Carrie White, a teenager who has spent her entire life in seclusion with her mother, Margaret. After her father, Ralph, dies suddenly, Carrie enters public high school for the first time, and her telekinetic powers begin to emerge. A bullying scandal, a prom invitation and a growing sense of dread follow.
Flanagan has said he never wanted a carbon copy of earlier versions. The infamous bathroom scene and the Black Prom remain, but the road to each moment is different. Starting in the second episode, the story also expands King’s mythology by showing other women around the world who share extraordinary abilities.
If you are new to the carrie tv series 2026, think of it as a modern, social-media-age reimagining rather than a remake of Brian De Palma’s 1976 film.
All eight episodes arrived together on Prime Video on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, so there is no weekly wait. Prime Video typically releases new titles at midnight Pacific Time. Here is how the road to premiere unfolded:
To watch the carrie tv series 2026 in the United States, you need an Amazon Prime Video subscription. Because the whole season is available at once, you can binge it over a weekend or pace it out across Halloween week.
Flanagan and his team considered more than a thousand actresses for the title role before choosing Summer H. Howell. He also wrote Margaret White specifically for Samantha Sloyan, who worked with him on Midnight Mass. Here are the main players:
| Actor | Character | Who they are |
|---|---|---|
| Summer H. Howell | Carrie White | The sheltered teen with telekinetic powers |
| Samantha Sloyan | Margaret White | Carrie’s fiercely religious, protective mother |
| Siena Agudong | Sue Snell | Popular student who feels remorse over the bullying |
| Alison Thornton | Chris Hargensen | Ringleader of the mean girls |
| Joel Oulette | Tommy Ross | Sue’s boyfriend, who agrees to take Carrie to prom |
| Josie Totah | Tina Blake | Chris’s best friend and prank co-conspirator |
| Arthur Conti | Billy Nolan | Chris’s delinquent boyfriend |
| Amber Midthunder | Rita Desjardin | Gym teacher who defends Carrie |
| Matthew Lillard | Henry Grayle | Principal of Ewen High School |
| Thalia Dudek | Emaline | A new character created for the series |
Supporting names include Katee Sackhoff as Carrie’s grandmother Judith Brigham, Rahul Kohli as teacher Mr. Peist, Michael Trucco and Heather Graham as Chris’s parents, and Tahmoh Penikett as Ralph White. Kate Siegel, another Flanagan regular, also appears and directs an installment.
The eight chapter titles read like a school timetable, which fits a story set inside a high school. Flanagan wrote the opening chapter and directed four episodes himself, with other filmmakers handling the rest.

Since everything dropped at once, the carrie tv series 2026 rewards viewers who go in knowing the structure. Early chapters build Carrie’s world, the middle chapters tighten the social pressure, and the finale returns to the director’s chair of Flanagan himself.
King’s original story has been adapted for the screen several times, so Flanagan chose to build something new from its ingredients. The biggest changes include:
Critics have largely praised the show. Variety called it a superb reimagining, and reviewers singled out Howell and Sloyan, though some viewers were divided over how far it strays from the book. Music comes from The Newton Brothers, and Michael Fimognari handled cinematography.
If you enjoyed The Haunting of Hill House or Midnight Mass, you will recognize Flanagan’s emotional, character-first style. For fans of the book, the carrie tv series 2026 offers familiar beats with fresh surprises. For newcomers, it works as a standalone horror drama about cruelty, kindness and power.
